Health & Safety Print

The UAW-GM Health and Safety Department develops programs and training materials that are provided to employees at UAW-represented GM sites. Workers receive appropriate health and safety training based on their job assignments.

The UAW-GM Health and Safety Department also conducts joint audits of facilities to ensure proper implementation of Health and Safety programs. Activities at the UAW-GM Center for Human Resources (CHR) impact the lives of thousands of people. The CHR provides leadership and support to Local Joint Health and Safety Committees. Health and safety at work and at home is a number one UAW-GM priority.

The joint administration and development of health and safety programs during the past 27 years at the national and joint levels have been a major factor in improving health and safety conditions at UAW-represented sites and global operations.

The UAW and GM have led the way nationally in developing industrial health and safety programs such as Ergonomics, Lockout and Energy Control, Confined Space Entry, Fall Hazard Control, and Industrial Hygiene, just to name a few.

Since 1985, more than 20,000 plant-based safety trainers have completed Health and Safety courses at the CHR. They are trained to implement joint health and safety programs at the local level and share this knowledge using state-of-the-art training facilities.
